Ode To Lebanon

One would think, that the lifelong tragedy of war would unite, rather than divide. As I watch the inevitable unravel in the land of Elisar by the sea..I ponder, What is it..that makes this tiny land a battlefield of ideologies? Devine..mundane..with a degree of vanity when faced with the indescribable amount of distress and anguish such battles beget.

The usual cliche when it comes to war and peace, is the Beatles’ “Give Peace a Chance”, but in Lebanon’s case..our cry out is “Give Life a Chance”, for it seems that underneath the layers and layers of useless notes taken in meetings, round tables, press conferences, party meetings, alliances gatherings, strikes...are more layers of international indifference to the Human Plight of innocent people.

Pawns..of Flesh, on a real life Chess Board, Black on one side..white on the other, and ironically..both antagonists have the same view from above the board, they're the white..and the opposite is the black! The question remains..why are the pawns in on this?

No Ideology..no cause..justifies Death of innocence, no one has the right to decide that innocent people's misery is the road to salvation. Salvation..is in letting children play on the beach..fly kites and dream of their favorite flavour of ice cream.

Selfish zealists who think they hold the keys of Heaven and Hell should re-read the Noble sayings of people past..The Repudiation of Harm is more important than the yield of Benediction.

Whether we agree with one side or the other in this escalating conflict, we can never escape our moral responsibility, we cannot suppress the human instinct of Justice, people have had enough..of death, of blood, of politics, of games and of fear.

Let Lebanon Live.

  1. All this you mentioned...it's called politics, bless it.
I always had dreams of a peaceful world, but taking a look at the world's history.... I find that there is no such a term. Was there ever a time when there was litteraly "world peace" . As sad as it may sound, there will always be war. If it's not our countries, its other countries... I just think that our countries -looking at our violent war-ful history- have fully earned their rights to deserve a time for peace. It's unbelievably tragic that we have lived and shall die never knowing the meaning of peace.

  2. God Shall Give Peace to His People..it's a verse in the Old Testament, the problem is that every people, think they're God's People!

Only God knows who his People are!

    Politics? well..I simply love it!

  3. I personally hate politics ! but I'm talking from a human point of view, peace in Lebanon will take a lot of hard work and dedication, its hard to forget that your next door neighbor killed your son, daughter, father, husband ….there is too long of bloody history between all sides, that makes it extra easy for opportunists to take advantage of it. And very hard for voices calling to forgive and forget and live happily ever after.

I may very well be wrong about this I'm no expert.

  4. Let Lebanon live, hopefully in my lifetime.

Born, raised, grew up, lost, lost it all, got married, had kids, and nothing changed..Now me and my husband brought the war and the division here, to our family.
I lived always under war rules, how to live in peace.I don't have a clue!! But I will make sure my kids will play on the beach, fly kites and have all the ice cream and I will let them teach me how to dream.

    Your words are so beautiful.

  6. Noura,
Thank you..I have always admired the amazing will to live the Lebanese have..despite all odds, they keep on..living..loving and hoping, teaching their children to love beauty..to love life, I sincerely hope that one day, I can take my unborn children..and fly kites with them on the beaches of beirut..and let them have their favorite flavour of ice cream..from a noble vendor who always smiles, even if this..is his only source of income.

    Lebanon Will Live.

  19. ALL politicians should shut up! I dedicate Beirut this song ...let the angelic voice sings for this country to live...

    http://arabic2.salmiya.net/songs/feyroz/ram/feyroz161.ram

    tks for sharing Ammar.

  21. You probably heard about what's goin on in the streets of Beirut this evening?
How can lebanon live after today?? and how much of this can we take? It is easier for me to be there now rather than to be away safe but worried sick. The problem is I know how it feels, sounds and smells right now and it's terrible.
Maybe I should shut the news off and back to Bossa Nova!!

  22. When the Pompus political leaders stop being selfish..as they use the bodies of innocent people in their quest for more power, when they stop being selfish..as they hide in bunkers..speaking only through tv stations, when the people of Lebanon sober up from their enforced poltical intoxication..Lebanon Will Live.

  24. Pawns, yes they are pawns.
(they're the white..and the opposite is the black) is what's actually happening, and I don't know how they will manage to get themselves out of this swamp of hostility even if the political crisis was solved.
